Hundreds of thousands of people have made the trek to Moraine Lake for sunrise in the summer. On clear days the ten famous peaks slowly light up in fiery colors as the sun crests over the horizon. Despite being surrounded by many other people, there is shared tranquility amongst most people who are able to simply appreciate the incredible show happening in front of them
The day this photo was taken began about an hour before the crack of dawn to make sure we had enough time to drive to the lake and walk to the lookout. Summer sunrises in Canada are extremely early so seeing ominous clouds on the horizon wasn't good news. Eventually, some of the clouds cleared in front of the sun to reveal a strip of warm light across the famous ten peaks.
